The History of Christianity (Session 2)
Feb 14, 2024 • Brian Rhodus
In session 2, pastor Brian traces early church history from the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD through Constantine’s rise in 312 AD. During this period, the gospel spread quickly despite persecution, through both oral and written witness, and the church remained united without denominations. Disputes arose over whether those who denied Christ under persecution could rejoin the church, leading to the growing authority of bishops and practices that eventually shaped Roman Catholic structure. Two key theological issues emerged: how salvation is received and how the church should be organized. Constantine’s conversion and legalization of Christianity marked a turning point, ending persecution but also introducing political control into the church.
