Guidelines for the Reception Music

Purpose:

To maintain a respectful and appropriate atmosphere during wedding receptions hosted at First Baptist Church Byram (FBC Byram), this policy outlines the expectations for DJs, live bands, and other musicians participating in wedding receptions held on church premises.

1. Approval & Scheduling

  • All music-related elements (DJs, bands, or other musical performances) must be approved by the senior pastor no later than 30 days prior to the event.
  • Event times must fall within the reserved hours as indicated on the Wedding Agreement. Early setup or extended time can be pre-approved by contacting the church office.

2. Music Content Guidelines

  • All music played or performed must be appropriate for a church environment. The following will not be permitted:
    • Explicit, vulgar, or suggestive lyrics
    • Music promoting violence, substance use, or disrespectful themes
    • Excessive volume levels (levels should not peak over 95 dB)

3. Sound Equipment

  • DJs or bands may bring their own sound equipment, provided it meets standard electrical requirements and does not compromise building safety.
  • If church-owned sound equipment is needed, it must be reserved in advance, and a trained FBC Byram media team member must be hired and present to operate it.

4. Power and Setup

  • All electrical needs must be disclosed in advance. Extension cords and equipment must be safely managed to avoid trip hazards.
  • Musicians and DJs are responsible for their own setup and teardown. All equipment must be removed immediately after the event unless alternate arrangements are approved.

5. Conduct and Supervision

  • Musicians and DJs must be courteous and cooperative with church staff and wedding coordinators at all times.
  • The wedding overseer will be present to address any music-related concerns during the event.

6. Volume Control

  • All music must be maintained at a reasonable volume level as determined above (peaks should be 95 dB or less). Live bands and DJs will be asked to lower the volume if it exceeds acceptable limits.
  • Music must cease no later than 8:30 PM, to allow for a 9:00 PM lights out and building locked timeline.

7. Liability

  • The wedding party is responsible for any damage caused by musical equipment or performers.
  • FBC Byram is not liable for lost, damaged, or stolen equipment belonging to musicians or DJs.

Agreement

  • All DJs, bands, and musical performers must sign an acknowledgment form agreeing to abide by the terms of this policy prior to their participation in any church-hosted wedding reception. This form can be signed digitally below or in person at the church office.
  • For questions or further clarification, please contact the church office at (601) 372-3156.
