Brian Rhodus, Senior Pastor

It is a true joy to serve as the pastor of First Baptist Church Byram, and I’m grateful to do ministry alongside such a loving church family. I’m especially thankful for my own family, who walk this calling with me every day. My wife, Heidi, and I were married in June 2015, and we are blessed with two daughters, Gemma Ruth, born in 2017, and Annlee, born in 2024, just two days before I began serving on staff at FBC Byram.

I was born and raised in Amite County, Mississippi, and graduated from Parklane Academy in 2004. I later earned degrees from Southwest Mississippi Community College, Mississippi College, and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Over the years, the Lord has given me the privilege of serving in a variety of ministry roles, including student pastor, recreation pastor, senior adult pastor, and young adult and family pastor. Each season has shaped my heart for discipleship and the local church.

Since beginning as pastor of FBC Byram on January 20, 2024, I’ve had the joy of watching our church grow deeper in its walk with Jesus Christ. My passion is to equip every believer to be an intentional disciple maker, sharing the gospel and investing in the next generation. You’ll often hear me say, “It starts at home,” because our greatest disciple-making work begins by equipping moms, dads, and grandparents to make disciples who make disciples.

I love meeting new people, so if you’d ever like to grab coffee or lunch, my treat, or just stop by to talk, I’d be glad to connect with you.

Hobbies and Interests

When I’m not at the church, I enjoy spending time with my family. We love being together, whether that’s watching movies, playing board games, or riding our golf cart around the neighborhood and connecting with our neighbors.

In my free time, I also enjoy hiking and camping. Being outdoors allows me to slow down, enjoy God’s creation, and find rest from the demands of everyday life.

Preaching style

I preach and teach the Bible expositionally, which is a way of teaching the Bible where the main point of the sermon comes directly from the main point of the biblical text. Instead of starting with a topic and finding verses to support it, expositional preaching starts with Scripture and lets God’s Word set the agenda.

In expositional preaching, we walk through passages of the Bible in their original context, explaining what the text meant to the original audience and how it applies to our lives today. The goal is not to share personal opinions or clever ideas, but to clearly communicate what God has already said.

Simply put, expositional preaching asks one central question each week: What is God saying in this passage, and how should it shape the way we live?
